Rainmaking and Leadership at Law Firms

Betsy Miller of Cohen Milstein wrote an article for the ABA’s Law Practice magazine exploring how law firms excessively value rainmaking skills to the exclusion of leadership skills, and improperly assume that the skills do not overlap. It’s a fascinating read that, as she acknowledges, certainly has some foundations in gender-related issues.

Why GenX Women are the Worst at Work-Life Balance

Fortune has an article on why GenX women have the hardest time balancing work and life: because we were conditioned to do it all. My favorite quotation?

We can teach career-driven women work-life integration strategies until we’re blue in the face, but telling moms more and more ways to fix their lives with how-tos isn’t the full answer.

FDIC as a Toxic Workplace

The Wall Street Journal [paywall] did an extensive article on the toxic environments within bank regulator FDIC, describing conduct throughout its offices nationwide that spanned over a decade. The agency has now hired Baker & Hostetler to conduct a “top to bottom” investigation of the allegations.
